Clubbing once a blue, blue moon - Zouk & Butter Factory

Zouk is a clubbing establishment in SG with 18 years under her belt and many top DJ's spinning there. Of course, there is the yearly 'Zouk-Out' happening in Sentosa. Well, I could say that Zouk was my playground. However, I'm absolutely not keen to dance under the moonlight at Sentosa.

The frequency of clubbing decrease inversely as my age catches up. Perhaps, it was out of boredom and tired ~ hanging out at the same joint, meeting the same people and doing the same thing. You get the idea. Soon, I realised it's a waste of my youth and time to do this every weekend.

In 10 Jan 2009, SL and I went for a movie and it ended early enough to head for Zouk. When we arrived, we still had no idea why the queue was super long. It didnt occur to us that Armin van Buuren was in da house till we overheard some of the clubbers mentioned about him. It was one of the worst type of queue coz we were 'squashed' by those who were pushing. We had definitely left imprints of our faces on the surface of the glass.

Even we entered into Zouk, we still could not get into the main area where Armin was paying...sob! Well, patience helped coz when the clock struck at 0330 hrs, most of us that were housed in other areas went straight to listen to his gig.

Oh boy, the crowd was good but the whole area was packed full of people. Hence, there was difficult to even dance. On there and then, I realised that the DJs were the 'new gods' where you could see worshippers dance in trance. The whole gig ended at 0530 hrs (approx) and was extremely grateful that Armin was playing overtime. Thoroughly enjoying every min.

Here is my picture (Mode.Attitude.Culture) of Armin spinning but this isnt clear.

Last weekend (8 May), SL and I was keen to visit a new joint (not exactly new). It was relocated from Robertson Quay to the present site at One Fullerton. It is Butter Factory and it's like the hottest club in town. It attracts the young things and charges pretty high charges. I heard a famous nymph hangs around there. The total damage was SGD 51 (approx) for 2 persons (Male : SGD 28; Female : SGD 23) Of course, there was a super long, long, long queue. SG is famous for queuing practically for everything. After catching a movie, we reached there at 0030hrs and the whole waiting game started.

One good virtue of SL is his patience and that's my weakness. As time passed, many people in the cover charge queue were impatient and moved away. Soon we found ourselves pretty near the beginning of the queue. Hooray! Seriously, everybody was dressed to kill. Micro mini skirts, 4-inch heels, etc ...

While we were queuing, I overheard 2 lonely boys were saying that they had no money and women. When I turned back and looked at home, it turned out that they were 'losers'. One of the guys was a little stout and was wearing a thin t-shirt that showed his man-boobs. The other was wearing a yellow t-shirt hiding behind a plaid shirt. When they opened their mouths, they could not even speak proper English. OMG!How disgusting!

After queuing for 2 hrs, this is not exaggerating! It was finally our turn! However, the security was 'teasing' the ladies in front of us. Before we could moved, the 2 losers went ahead to queue in front of us. When we paid for the cover charge, we were told that the bag storage was full and I had to carry my bag along. The cashier mentioned that there were no spaces left for bags. It was rather ridiculous as there were spaces above the shelves. All they could say was "no more space." Anyway, I wouldnt allow these incidents to spoil my fun!

When we arrived at 2nd floor, there were 2 rooms to choose from : Bump, which played hip-hop/R&B tunes, and Fash, which rocks electro and indie grooves. Based on our damage, we decided to choose Bump. We decided to call for a day at 0400 hrs. When we left, we saw the loser boys again with one of them (the one showing his man boobs) cornering the girls. We could the unpleasant expression on that girl's face.

In general, we didnt enjoy ourselves as all the fun was evaporated by the time we reached towards the beginning of the queue. The staff were young and inexperience in terms of customer service. It's like too bad you came late and there was no space left. Maybe, they felt that BF is the hottest club right now. Honestly, I felt that the queue outside the club could be due to fire safety measure. On the other hand, BF could be trying to create the image and idea of being the hippest and hottest club in town by restricting the number of patrons. However, It was a different story when you enter the rooms. Strange but true. BTW, the crowd is relatively young and it seemed that the target age is between 18 - 25.

Perhaps, only time can tell the longevity and survival of the clubs in the ever changing tastes of the consumers.
Maybe, you would like to share your experiences on this.

PS: Met a couple of cougars in da club.*wink* Remember Mrs Robinson in The Graduate...*wink*
Perhaps, this will be the first and last time visiting BF!
