Fashions fade, style is eternal

Call me a jealous prick or whatever!

Currently, I'm watching fashion shows on the net and something struck me really hard. We should continue our search for the fountain of youth coz the society embraces and portrays such qualities in the media. It is terribly unhealthy as the target audience is mainly youth girls who aspire to be model wannabes.

Youth, beauty, grace and glamour are the images portrayed by these young models. Of course, most of us do aspire to be like them. Capturing that moment of youthfulness, perhaps?

However, these images often portray people who are living the high life and this is not reality. Coz we do age at 26 and that's when the aging process starts. It will continue. Hence, many resort to plastic surgery. Dont you find it weird to see the young and youthful models who stand beside the aging designers What a contrast!

The whole industry is completely in love with models whose figures are of twelve year old boys. In reality, humans do come in all shapes and sizes. Yet the clothes that are paraded on these clothes hangers are of sizes 0 and 2. Ouch! Does that mean that real people cant wear these clothes? Or plus sizes look unglamourous with these clothings since they may be wearing the expanded versions of the clothes?

Btw, some of these models do starve , chain smokers or taking some form of drugs to control their diets so that they can reduce their weights to fit into the sample sizes of 0 and 2. There are some serious cases of anorexics and these could lead drastic results such as irregular menstrual cycles or even death. Now, that's the reality.

I believe some designers did tried to use real people to parade their clothes on the runaways. However, they were unsuccessful coz the consumers' minds were (are) filled with images of picture perfect models. Or rather the market is not ready to embrace such models. If you look at the model industry as a whole, you can count the number of the plus size models with your fingers and toes.

To me, I still love fashion but will re-recreate it to suit my body curves.

To quote the late Yves Saint Laurent ' Fashions fade, style is eternal.' That's enough said already!
