Fashions fade, style is eternal

Call me a jealous prick or whatever!

Currently, I'm watching fashion shows on the net and something struck me really hard. We should continue our search for the fountain of youth coz the society embraces and portrays such qualities in the media. It is terribly unhealthy as the target audience is mainly youth girls who aspire to be model wannabes.

Youth, beauty, grace and glamour are the images portrayed by these young models. Of course, most of us do aspire to be like them. Capturing that moment of youthfulness, perhaps?

However, these images often portray people who are living the high life and this is not reality. Coz we do age at 26 and that's when the aging process starts. It will continue. Hence, many resort to plastic surgery. Dont you find it weird to see the young and youthful models who stand beside the aging designers What a contrast!

The whole industry is completely in love with models whose figures are of twelve year old boys. In reality, humans do come in all shapes and sizes. Yet the clothes that are paraded on these clothes hangers are of sizes 0 and 2. Ouch! Does that mean that real people cant wear these clothes? Or plus sizes look unglamourous with these clothings since they may be wearing the expanded versions of the clothes?

Btw, some of these models do starve , chain smokers or taking some form of drugs to control their diets so that they can reduce their weights to fit into the sample sizes of 0 and 2. There are some serious cases of anorexics and these could lead drastic results such as irregular menstrual cycles or even death. Now, that's the reality.

I believe some designers did tried to use real people to parade their clothes on the runaways. However, they were unsuccessful coz the consumers' minds were (are) filled with images of picture perfect models. Or rather the market is not ready to embrace such models. If you look at the model industry as a whole, you can count the number of the plus size models with your fingers and toes.

To me, I still love fashion but will re-recreate it to suit my body curves.

To quote the late Yves Saint Laurent ' Fashions fade, style is eternal.' That's enough said already!

3 April

Went to the first Nuffnang Bloggers Symposium that was sponsored by Canon and it was held in SMU. There are no pictures from me but you have wish to take a look at the blog that belonged to the owner of a famous blogshop (hint : the initials stand BC). Yup, I was totally unprepared and only brought along my humble mobile phone (which would die on me anytime).

Spent SGD 20 on cab fare coz I was running late and the programme stated that the registration would end at 1.15pm sharp. However, I saw bloggers who were strolling in after 1.30pm. For such future events, I swear that I do not want to spend my money on cab fare and get myself prepared earlier.

Break time came at 2.30 in the afternoon. Many queues were formed for the lucky draw, best picture voted and for refreshments. When I was my turn to grab some light snacks at the buffet counters, most of the items had ran out especially the sushi section. Quite disappointing.

It was quite a crowd and decided to sit near one of the break-out rooms which was designated for fashion discussion from Belluspuera (owner of Bonito Chico) and Mycherrymagazine, Indie fashionista.

For Vel (who is the owner of Bonito Chico), she had discussed about her personal style tips as well as maintaining a competitive edge in the blogsphere. Before Nicole's (who is the blogger for My Cherry Magazine) session started, there was a Q&A and had won some Nuffnang premiums (except the notebook).

Nicole had covered a number of pointers about street photography such as lighting, composition, etc and these were texted into my humble mobile phone. At this moment, I really wished that I had an iphone to capture the moment.

Kudos to the team who managed anf organised the events.

Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks, Nuffnang!

PS : loves the crisp pages of a new notebook given and will definitely use it.

PPS : I'm glad to know more bloggers for this event but was pissed by some rude bloggers!

Click! Click!

I've borrowed a camera from S and it will be mine till I can afford one. BTW, modern technologies dont come cheap if you are not looking at the basic models.

All these pictures from the blog were taken from my mobile phone. Yup, not much of picture position.
Yeah, was happy that I've a 'real' camera to play around with. However, S had completely forgotten about the USB cable. Sigh!
(Latest : He had passed the cable to me and figuring out modern technologies isnt one of my forte.)
S has been really sweet this month coz it's the anniversary month. Will reveal how long we have been dating when the timing is right. The sweet one had replaced my ipod's leather casing as well as earphones coz he had gotten himself the iphone. Yup, he had decided to get one. Like my new ipod's leather casing and he had provided a travel charger for my ipod, too. So thoughtful!

Sidetrack : I could not find any leather casing for my ipod coz everybody has been concentrating on the casing for the iphone consumers. The leather casing was the only one left on the shelves. It was not cheap either. Argh!

PS : Pictures are still taken from my mobile phone (which is dead).

Hauls from Local Brand ~ Part 2

There were a number of sales in the first quarter of the year. Being a budget shopper, I didnt miss these opportunities to buy more basics.

I was surprised that I could wear the clothes of these local brands. My perceptions of these brands only catered for the slim and skinny. It didnt come across to my mind that I could wear their stuff as my preference is geared towards European sizes.
'Sales' is the main attraction to these local brands and the retail price of each piece costed less than SGD 20.
Here are my loots from local brands such as BYSI and Mphosis. These include two dresses and a top.

Both the black dress as well as top were from the same series and were heavily discounted. Yup, the picture cant really reflect the length difference.
The other dress was also heavily discounted, too and I loved the combination of different materials. Had been eyeing on that dress when it was on sale. However, I didnt have the courage to try thinking that I was too big for it.
Finally, I decided to summon my courage to try the dress. To my astonishment, I could wear this and decided to buy it. The SA went to the store and got me a new piece that I could purchase. Sweet!

I've decided to use the following ingredients to transform from office to drinks after work:

Will blog about my Bianca shoes another day.
Wishing all Happy Holidays!

Bib Quirky Accessories (Advertorial)

The trend of bib accessories is carried forward to this year.

I'm not a huge fan as it did a bit like some kid's toy. Besides, the ones that I like are on the steep end. Hence, this trend didnt take off at my end even though my frens were spotted wearing them since last year.

I did tried them in stores and loved the idea of how bib accessories can transform or update the look of an outfit. These work well with flat front tops or tank styles. However, these do not not work well with button front or collared top. It did made my top looked good. However, I did hesitated to buy as the one that I had tried was the only piece and was not in a good condition. The embellishments didnt look secured at all and felt backing looked quite dirty. Hence, had decided not to buy this piece and it happened during sales.

Of course, what sparks my interest again is BIB Quirky Accessories.

The bib necklaces are made from delicate fabrics and vintage embellishments to create that look. The best part is these are one-of-a kind necklaces and they have kindly send me a piece to match my clothes.

The one I will be wearing is Faith. The materials used for this Frosted Pink Pearls, Matte Gold Studs, Silver Beads, Embellished Buttons, Japanese silver beads, Stones, Satin Black Ribbon, Black Felt, Dark Silver Ribbon Clasp.
Yes, I am thrilled and have it paired it up with some of my clothes. I love this piece coz it flatters a number of my tops and dresses.
Here is one of my looks with the bib necklace.

30 mins

There are a number of IT Fairs happening in 1 year and I think the first happened in March (unsure about this).

For this year's IT fair, S got a pretty good deal for his Iphone. Yes, he had taken a bite of the apple coz the deal was too good to be true.

We had decided to go to the IT fair after having dinner with his colleague and her companion with only 30 mins left. The IT fair ended at 9 on Sunday. He was protective about his new toy and wanted to source for perfect casing for his iphone.

We were busy hunting down the 'best' casing within the limited time. He was very particular about how his ipone would look and was disappointed with the types that were offered. Nothing fit as some of the casings were too girlish till we went to a place where there was a maddening crowd.

I decided to go forward to see the products closer. Oh gosh, the prices of all the products displayed were heavily discounted. We managed to grab a couple of Iphone pouches as well as other accessories. Well, the prices were too good to be true as compared to the retail stores. BTW, I was delighted with my buys after checking the website.

SL was very picky on the colors for his accessories. I could not find the identical case that the Indian man (read the story below) had stolen. All I could find were pink cases which were unacceptable for S. There were a couple of Ipod classic casings that I had gave them a miss as we were on a budget. Finally, I managed to find a couple of black casings for both Iphone and Ipod. He loved the black casings.

It was one of those 'grab it first and decide later' shopping as the prices were affordable. Well, there were a number of regrets and there were a ipod silicon case, TDK docking system and another Belkin Sleevetop.

The best part was the pricings from two sales personnel were different and we decided to buy from the male salesperson instead coz he offerred a better deal. The female quoted a much higher price. All these items were purchased less than SGD 100 and it was a pretty good bargain based on the number of items that we had bought.

Sidetrack : I did witnessed a theft. An Indian man had stolen one of the Iphone pouches while the sale persons were busy handling the crowd. Later, I heard his young child questioning him whether he had paid and he slipped away quietly and dragged his child along with him. He was trying hard to distract his child's attention by not answering his questions. Well, I was a female and found difficulty to confront him as there was a crowd. People were pushing and male consumers were crowding around coz of their ridiculous pricing. SL had to use his body to shield me from the male buyers that were crowding around.

I do know that I'm a tech idiot but a budget conscious consumer who can smell bargains from afar. This shopping trip was great!

Tip : It will be good to carry cash rather than other methods of payment as this will increase your bargaining power and some stores do accept cash only.

Here are some of the items that I had grabbed ( A Belkin Ipod classic casing / Belkin Sleeve Top / TDK pink earphones).

Break Out

On March 14, S and I went to the Esplanade to watch Break Out. His colleague and her companion had joined us. Both of us enjoyed such performance and had caught the Ballerina and B-Boys last year.
This year, it was part of my birthday pressie.
That's not all. We had ex-celebrities such as Thomas Ang and a forgettable actor among the audience. BTW, both of them were seated behind and in front respectively.
Frankly, I did not enjoy the company of this double date. There were no common topics and I would rather remain silent throughout my meal.
