Soba and other Japanese food madness

Hi there, there is no fashion entries but another food entry again. Went to the famous "all prices at a fixed price" store again. According to my gf, PC, we had spent a record breaking time of 3 hours in that store. 3 hours, quite unbelievable, huh?

Had increased my intake of Japanese food items in my kitchen and quite happy about my purchases. This time I didnt buy any soba and sauce coz had stocked them up already. But would foresee that there would be a need to make a future trip down again coz I would go uneasy if my stock ran low. Yup, I would go hysteric if my favourite items run low, etc. Okay, there's a bit of exaggeration in this bit.
The damage for this purchase was approx SGD 20 and noticed that most of my recent purchases were hitting the double digit. My self control and restraint were thrown out of the window the very moment I stepped in these stores.

The items of this purchase consisted mainly soups and had a craving for soups especially the wee hours of the morning. The idea of liquid filling up the stomach instead of solid food sounds healthier. Perhaps, I may have developed a soba phobia after eating it the same method.
Another method I resorted was using the sachets of Katsuodashi (stated on the box) as a soup as well as using sesame dressing for a bit of taste. The taste was pretty okay but my gf, PC had prepared more elaborated cooking such as adding the other ingredients such as seaweed and wasabi. Talk about simplicity. Hence, my presentation is only for my viewing only and not so elaborate as compared to others.

Here are the items (Top : Sesame Dressing, Left to Right : Soups and horse radish paste- wasabi)
If you have any other methods of eating soba, please let me before I start to get sick of my own doings.

13.10.09 ~ I <3 Soba

Food is rarely on my blog. However, my hunger pangs were getting into me and decided to blog about it.

At this hour (at 1.32 am), I was hungry and really wanted to eat something. Yup, I knew it's unhealthy to eat at such unearthly hours. However, my biological clock had been messed up for these couple of months. Hence, this was my dinner and have decided to cook soba. One of the easiest apart from instant noodles.

Have seen these noodles in my favorite haunts. But didnt bother to pick up a packet till recently(I needed to stretch my dollar). Have went to google about this brand of soba as well as the sauce and found pretty decent reviews.

Basically, cooking soba is just like cooking pasta and it has to be al dente. By using hot and cold water in order to achieve the desired results. The soba that I've got is the buckwheat version and it's already separated into 3 bundles for easy consumption. For the sauce, it's Katsuo Atsukezuritsuyu. There's a hint of alcohol and it's salty. Hence, I will dilute the sauce with water according to my liking.

When certain food is concerned, I'm a no frills person and likes to taste food at its original taste whether it's cooked or raw. Simplicity is the best taste for me. But I do know some of frens will put other ingredients with the noodles. Yup, it's strange coming from somebody who is culinary trained. Simply disliked the cleaning / tidying portion of the whole process.

Anyway, the soba and sauce can be found in this famous 'all items at the same price' retail outlets. If anybody has any other suggestions besides the one that I've mentioned above, please let me know if your method is fuss-free.

PS : Feeling very fulfilled now!

PPS : I've stocked up enough but planning to get more for my next trip.
